The Dragon Boat Festival literally also has names such as "Duanwu", “Double Five (Chong Wu) Because it’s celebrated on the Fifth Day of the Fifth month on the lunar calendar. 

    端午节，又称端阳节、龙舟节。端午从字面上还有“端五”、“重五”、“重午”等名称。“端”古汉语有开头、初始的意思，称“端五”也就如称“初五”。《风土记》里说：“仲夏端午。端者，初也。”每月有三个五日，头一个五日就是“端五”。古人习惯把五月的前几天分别以端来称呼，元代陈元靓《岁时广记》云：“京师市尘人，以五月初一为端一，初二为端二，数以至五谓之端五。”由上古时代祭龙演变而来。

Qu Yuan was a Chinese poet and politician who lived during the Warring States period. He is known for his patriotism and contributions to classical poetry and verses, especially through the poems of the Chu Ci anthology (also known as The Songs of the South or Songs of Chu): a volume of poems attributed to or considered to be inspired by his verse writing. Together with the Shi Jing, the Chu Ci is one of the two greatest collections of ancient Chinese verse.

 Qu served in high offices. However, when the king decided to ally with the increasingly powerful state of Qin, Qu was banished for opposing the alliance and even accused of treason. During his exile, Qu Yuan wrote a great deal of poetry. Twenty-eight years later, Qin captured Ying, the Chu capital. In despair, Qu Yuan died by suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River.It is said that the local people, who admired him, raced out in their boats to save him, or at least retrieve his body. This is said to have been the origin of dragon boat races. When his body could not be found, they dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan's body. This is said to be the origin of zongzi.

    据《史记》“屈原贾生列传”记载，屈原，是春秋时期楚怀王的大臣。他倡导举贤授能，富国强兵，力主联齐抗秦，后遭馋去职，被赶出都城，流放到沅、湘流域。他在流放中，写下了忧国忧民的《离骚》、《天问》、《九歌》等不朽诗篇，独具风貌，影响深远。公元前278年，秦军攻破楚国京都。屈原心如刀割，于五月五日，在写下了绝笔作《怀沙》之后，抱石投汨罗江身亡。以后，在每年的五月初五，就有了龙舟竞渡、吃粽子、喝雄黄酒的风俗，以此来纪念爱国诗人屈原。

During our cooking class, we washed the leaves, chose the best to wrap the sticky rice, put the stuffing in and then carefully wrapped the zongzi. For many of our children, it’s their very first time to have this experience.

    烘焙课上，洗粽叶，选粽叶，包糯米，绕线绳。在老师的指导下，孩子们也开启了他们人生中第一次包粽子的体验。一双双稚嫩的小手，小心翼翼地学着老师的样子，折叶，盛料，压实，精心呵护着每一颗小粽子。

Besides making real zongzi, we also did some arts and crafts activities related to the Dragon Boat festival such us making paper zongzi and others.

    一个白胖子，裹着绿毯子，腰里扎根细绳子，没错，这就是粽子的模样，小朋友们心中的粽子是什么样子的呢？

    五彩绳既是五彩丝,又俗称五色丝。早在东汉应劭著《风俗演义》中就已经记载说把它系在臂上可避除兵鬼、不染病瘟。在《续汉书》、《后汉书》中，端午日这天用朱索、五色印做门户装饰,认为可抵防恶气。

Hanfu, as a traditional costume that has been passed down and preserved by the Chinese people for more than 5,000 years, condenses the classics of Chinese classical craftsmanship and aesthetics, and contains the characteristics and culture of different dynasties. In order to let the children perceive the beauty of Hanfu and promote traditional culture, Hurston Kindergarten has carefully prepared a caltwalk style fashion show where students and children wore Hanfu and other traditional Chinese clothing.

    汉服，作为中华民族五千多年流传且保留下来的传统服饰，浓缩了中国古典工艺与美学之经典，蕴含了不同朝代的特色与文化。为了让小朋友们感知汉服的美韵，弘扬传统文化，赫斯顿幼儿园为孩子们精心准备了一场穿越之旅——汉服文化T台秀活动。

    身穿不同样式汉服的托班和K1小班的孩子们出场啦！害羞的脸庞，稚嫩的步伐，激动中一丝小小的紧张，溢于言表。

The children of K2 and K3 walked up the catwalk in a very elegant manner and with great confidence.

    K2中班和K3大班的孩子们迈着整齐的步伐，走上T台，自信大方地向在场的老师和同学们展现了汉服的古典之美，并摆出了自己独特的造型。

In class, the children through stories, nursery rhymes and children songs, learned about the origins of this festival and the customs and traditions we follow to celebrate it.

    在昨天的课堂上，孩子们通过故事，儿歌，舞蹈等形式，初步认识了端午节，了解了这个节日的来历，文化习俗，谚语及相关诗句。
